5keeps the sun off, and it looks great  Oct 03, 2009 By Spire
I purchased the o'neill skins long sleeve rash guard so i didn't have to wear so much sunscreen. now i only have to wear sunscreen on my face, neck, and hands. the shirt is rated to be SPF 55+, which is more than enough. i wear the rash guard when i'm fishing, going to the beach, or wakeboarding. Although the shirt feels a bit tight at first, it is comfortable to wear all day, and movement is only slightly restricted. i recommend going up at least one size from whatever tee shirt size you currently wear. I purchased this thinking it would add a bit of warmth when on the water, but it doesn't. when the rashguard is wet, it is just as cold as if you weren't wearing it. When fishing, i noticed that when the rash guard is dry, it can get a bit clammy on a hot day, so i just wet the shirt down whenever i start to get warm. I love the styling O'Neill used, and i'm very happy that instead of taking a half hour to apply sunscreen, i can just put this shirt on.

5Nice multicolored rash guard shirt  Jul 21, 2008 By K. Hudson "Technical writer"
I purchased this for sun protection and it seems to work quite well. Also, it dries quickly once it is out of the water. I normally wear a large, but this extra extra large (XXL - two sizes above what I would purchase for a shirt) still clings around my skin. I prefer this fit to a really tight fit.

3Sizes run EXTREMELY small  Dec 31, 2009 By Amber Davis "Macha Catracha"
I bought this shirt for my husband, who normally wears a medium. I heard these ran small, so I ordered a large. When he tried it on, he could barely breathe it was so tight. I had return it and order an XL, which is still extremely snug, but at least allows him to get oxygen. (In case you were wondering, he is six foot one and weighs 160--not an XL sized guy.) Other than the inconvenience of having to return my purchase, we are happy with the shirt. It seems well constructed and the color is nice.

5Advice on buying a size  Aug 10, 2010 By K. Gardner
I purchased this shirt and found the reviews on here about sizing to be very helpful. Because of the Amazon reviews, I finally decided to go to a surf store and try on, before purchasing. I normally wear a medium to large men's shirt. I am right in between, depending on the brand of the shirt. I found the Large Oneil shirt to be very tight in the dressing room, so I purchased the XL size. Which fits great when I am not in the water.

WHAT I CAN ADD TO THE OTHER REVIEWS IS THIS....once in the water, because the shirt is mostly nylon, it seems to get a bit looser and stretchy. I bought it to swim laps in, so it is a lit bit looser when swimming than I had hoped.

In hind sight, maybe the large would have been better in the water. If you plan on doing a lot of swimming in this shirt, you may want to go up just one size from your normal shirt size, but it will not be a comfortable fit for you when it is dry. My wife informed me that panty hose get stretchy when wet, which are made of nylon. So do these rash guard shirts.

I love the shirt for it's sunburn protection and I can stay longer in the pool without getting burned.

5Glad I Paid Attention to the other Reviews!!  Oct 01, 2010 By HSPS2
I bought this shirt for upcoming trips to Mexico and Hawaii. I'll be in the water a lot and need the great SPF protection that this shirt offers because I easily burn and I hate having to grease up my whole body with messy lotions. I'm so glad so many reviewers were emphatic about ordering two sizes larger than your normal size. I was reluctant to do so, figuring there's no way the much larger size would fit me properly. But I went ahead and ordered the XXL even though I typically only require a Large. I'm 6'1" and weigh 176 lbs. When I received the order and tried on the XXL shirt, it felt pretty tight which worried me slightly. But then I remembered that one of the reviewers mentioned that it loosens up slightly when wet. I sure don't want a saggy, heavy, clingy, wet shirt on when playing in the surf, so this sizing will be perfect for me. Even though it fits very snug, it doesn't restrict my movement or breathing. The quality of the shirt is very high. The fabric is very smooth and comfortable. The seams are all smooth and non-abrasive. I'm extremely happy with this purchase. Don't forget - buy two sizes larger than your normal size!

October 9 Update
I've been in Puerto Vallarta using my new rash guard shirt and can say without hesitation it is as good, maybe even better than I thought it would be at the time I wrote the original review. I spend hours playing in the surf and haven't gotten a hint of a sunburn thanks to the excellent sun protection this material provides. The shirt does loosen up slightly when wet and has been very comfortable - snug but not overly tight. It's a nice fit (two sizes larger than my normal size). And I found another nice benefit from the shirt. When wet, it keeps me very cool while walking on the beach in this humid 92 degree weather. The shirt is a winner!
